The Memory Goes On
In 2005, the 440th Airlift Wing was based at General Mitchell
Air Reserve Station located at General Mitchell Intl. Arpt. The BRAC decison
was to close the Milwaukee ARS and move the wing and aircraft to Pope
Air Force Base, North Carolina. The wing started operations at Pope Air
Force Base in 2006 and completed the move to Pope by October 2007. The
first unit assembly at the new location was 1 October 2007. At the start
of 2010 the 440th Airlift Wing has 16 C-130 H models supporting world
wide missions and providing training missions for the XVIII Airborne Corps
and 82nd Airborne Division from Fort Bragg.
